House clearance in Prestatyn — Denbighshire now, Clwyd within living memory — is rarely dramatic work. None of that is us being awkward; it is simply how those four categories have to be handled now.
After the van went, the house got a clean through. Three bedrooms and the rest of it, floors, surfaces, windowsills, the lot — because it was going on the market and an empty house that has just had furniture dragged out of it looks worse than you would think.
Then the paperwork, which took longer than the clearance did. A solicitor was involved in the estate, and one of the family wrote to ask for something we are asked for fairly often but which people rarely think of in advance: "could we please have a receipt of payment for the solicitor". So a receipt went out in the post as well as by email. The first cheque came back from the bank unpaid — the signature did not match the mandate they held — and there were postal delays on top of that, so a fortnight went by with everyone politely checking whether an envelope had gone astray. Where we work, and how the town sits
Prestatyn sits on the coast between Rhyl and the Point of Ayr, with the hillside and the Clwydian foothills behind it and the sea in front. The housing varies more than a seaside town has any right to. Seafront and near-seafront bungalows, a lot of them bought as retirement moves in the seventies and eighties. Then the newer estates on the flat towards Ffrith beach, and the older stone properties as you go up towards Meliden and Dyserth.
