Surrey is the county we know best, and not because of anything we did on purpose. The office is on this side of London, the runs go out this way most mornings, and over the years 118 clearances have landed in Surrey postcodes across 36 different districts — from KT6 in Surbiton, which comes up more than anywhere else, out to GU9 in Farnham and RH8 at Oxted.

What that means in practice is that we are rarely guessing here. We know which streets in Epsom you can get a Luton down and which you cannot. We know that the older parts of Guildford and Godalming were built before anyone owned two cars, and that a route across Weybridge that takes fifteen minutes on a Sunday will take at least twice that on a Thursday morning.

The county splits into three kinds of work

The Thames-side towns — Walton, Weybridge, East Molesey, Thames Ditton, Hampton — are mostly older houses with lofts that have never been emptied and garages that stopped holding a car about thirty years ago. Volume comes out of those two rooms, not the bedrooms.

The commuter belt through Woking, Camberley and Farnham is mainly probate clearances. Families need the document search done, the personal belongings taken out, and the furniture left behind so the house can be dressed, cleaned and put on the market. Once it sells we are usually asked back to take the furniture out for the new owners. Often nobody attends either visit — we are handed a key by an agent, and photographs of every room go over at the end, because that is all anyone has to go on.

And the eastern edge — Redhill, Reigate, Horley, Caterham, Oxted — is closer to Gatwick than to Guildford. The recycling sites are further apart down there, but the runs join up more easily with what we have in Sussex than with the rest of the county.

Disposal, and the paperwork

Surrey is short of options for non-household and trade waste, but the transfer stations at Epsom, Guildford and Leatherhead take it, and that is where ours goes. The Guildford end is Chambers at Westfield Road on the Slyfield estate, GU1 1RR; Leatherhead is KT22 7LF.

We hold a waste carrier registration — CBDU419679. If you are an executor and need the transfer notes for the estate file, let us know and we will send them once the clearance is finished.

What we cover

The Surrey pages below run across GU, KT, RH and the SM, CR and TW districts that fall on this side of the boundary. If your postcode is on the edge and you are not sure whether it counts as Surrey, it does not matter to us — ring with the postcode and we will tell you straight away whether it is an ordinary run or a longer one.
