Somebody walking backwards who knows what he is doing. Because she told us in advance, the right number of men and the right kit were on the van before it left. The rest of the instruction was equally plain: everything to be cleared unless otherwise instructed on the day, with three exceptions written down beforehand — "Rugs to be cleared", "Curtains to remain", "white goods in kitchen to remain". One item of furniture in the loft, and nothing at all in the garden or the shed. That is a rare brief, and it made the day short. The loft piece came down through the hatch first thing, before the rooms filled up with men and boxes, which is the order we prefer. Get the awkward thing out while the stairs and the landing are still clear. A relative was on site all day and able to instruct the team, so the two or three "does this go?" questions that come up in every house were answered on the spot instead of by voicemail. She also wrote, and this dates the job as much as anything, "If there is a positive test for COVID on the day we will inform you immediately". Nobody tested positive. The house was empty by the middle of the afternoon.
A word on fridges, freezers and mattresses, because people are often caught out by them.
