November 2019. A three-bedroom house, run entirely by a solicitor's private client department on behalf of the executors. Three men, one full day, and a second load went out the same afternoon. Two fridge freezers left under regulated disposal, a mattress with them. There was food waste in the kitchen that had been sitting long enough to need taking out as a separate job rather than bagged in with the rest. After the clearance the house had a full three-bedroom clean — floors, kitchen units, bathroom, the lot — so it could be photographed for sale.
What the solicitor actually wanted to settle before anything else was who our paperwork should go to. The letter read: "We can confirm that we are the instructed Solicitors in this estate, and we would be grateful if you could confirm that you will be prepared to wait until such time as this estate is in funds or whether you require the Executors to settle your invoice within your allotted payment period?"
Our answer then is the answer now, and it's worth putting plainly because it's the question executors are most nervous about asking. We invoice the solicitor, the executor or the estate directly. The account sits with the estate, not with a relative's own bank account, and payment can come out of the estate when it's in funds. There is no deposit before the day. Keys collected from a reception desk and handed back when the job's finished is routine for us too. Nobody needs to stand in an empty house to supervise three men carrying wardrobes.
Garage and loft clearance in Ledbury

They're classed as POP items — persistent organic pollutants, meaning the flame retardants in the foam and fabric — and the regulations forbid mixing them into a general load. They go to a permitted incineration route. Fridges and freezers are the same story for the gas in the circuit. Paint tins, gas bottles, solvents, asbestos sheeting from an old shed roof: those aren't going in the back of a clearance van either.
