What a house clearance in Rossendale actually involves
The last BB4 enquiry went the way most of them do. Somebody writes in, we write back, and our reply has far less to say about paperwork than about what will physically happen in their mother's front room on the day.

Why Rossendale houses take longer than the square footage suggests
The valley runs Rawtenstall, Waterfoot, Stacksteads, Bacup, with Haslingden and Helmshore off to the west, and almost everything is built on a slope. Stone terraces stepped up the hillside. Back streets that were laid out for a coal cart and now hold a wheelie bin and a parked Corsa. Weavers' cottages with the long mullioned upper windows and a staircase that turns twice on the way down. A three-bed here can take longer to empty than a four-bed on the flat, purely because of the carry.
So when we talk about a house clearance in Rossendale we ask about the carry, not just the bedrooms. Is the front door up six steps from the pavement? Is there a back gate wide enough for a barrow? Can the Luton sit outside without blocking the street for everybody else? On BB4 terraces the honest answer is often no, and then it is a matter of walking things out to wherever the van can legally stand. Garage and loft clearance in Rossendale, cellars and outhouses too
Rossendale housing throws in a lot of extra spaces for its size: stone outhouses, coal holes, cellars under the front room, lofts with a hatch the width of your shoulders. Furniture, tools, crockery and clothing that somebody else could genuinely use is offered on to charity shops and reuse schemes locally — the valley has a decent run of them and they are picky, quite rightly, so it has to be clean and whole. Scrap metal goes for scrap. What is left is tipped at a licensed transfer facility that weighs it, records it and issues us paperwork, and we keep that paperwork.

Worth doing with any firm, ours included. Lancashire's household recycling centres will not accept waste brought in by a van on a paid job, so if a clearance is being done properly it has to go through the trade route, with the transfer notes to prove it.
Some things have to travel separately, and that is regulation rather than preference. Mattresses are bulky and are handled apart from general waste. Sofas, armchairs and footstools fall under the POP rules — the flame-retardant chemicals in the foam mean they cannot be mixed in with everything else and have to go to incineration under a regulated stream. Fridges and freezers count as hazardous because of the gases in them and go to a separate treatment route. Televisions, paint and garden chemicals likewise. If you want the disposal receipts for the estate file, ask and you will get them.
