Barry and Penarth on the coast west of Cardiff, and the farmland behind them.
Penarth is Victorian seaside villas and terraces, substantial and often converted. Barry is mixed — terraces, postwar estates and dockside redevelopment.
Inland the Vale is farm country with steadings. Glamorgan is the older name for this whole stretch of coast and remains in use.
