House clearance in Grimsby is a good part of what we do on the Humberside bank — the terraced streets behind the docks, the semis out at Scartho, the bungalows at Humberston and New Waltham. It ran to a full day and the van was out and back more than once before the house stood empty. The mattresses went their own way as well. A transfer station takes them separately from the general load, so they get counted, listed and booked in as mattresses rather than buried under the wardrobes.
Afterwards the paperwork needed correcting and going out again. The reply came back in four words — "amended invoice with thanks" — which is about as much as anybody wants to say once a house is empty and the keys are back with whoever is holding them. Fair enough.
What comes out of a house clearance in Grimsby, and where it goes

Housing type changes what the day looks like more than the size of the house does. The terraces near the docks have a back ten foot behind them and no drive at the front, so the walk from door to tailgate is the whole job. Scartho and Waltham are largely inter-war and post-war semis with a side gate, which is easy. The village houses at Healing, Laceby and Stallingborough often have a garage, a shed and a loft still full of the last thirty years, and that is where the volume hides. Bungalows at Humberston and New Waltham are the kindest of the lot: no stairs, and usually somewhere to put the van.
The whole area is North East Lincolnshire Council for waste rules and bulky collections, though the address still reads Lincolnshire and the region is Yorkshire and the Humber, which confuses people who've moved here. Vans come in off the A180.
