Glasgow is tenement city, and that single fact shapes almost every clearance in it.
A tenement flat is reached by a common stair shared with the whole close. There is no lift, the stair turns at every half-landing, and the close door opens onto a street where the van may not be able to stop. Everything is carried, and a three-seater sometimes does not come out whole.
Beyond the tenements there are postwar estates, and the West End has larger flats in converted townhouses with the same stair problem on a grander scale.
Confirmation, not probate
Scottish estates go through confirmation rather than probate. The document has a different name and a different shape, and an executor searching for English forms will not find what they need. It changes nothing about how we work: we invoice the executor, the solicitor or the estate, there is no deposit, and payment can come from the estate once it settles.
